Meditate For A Grounding Calm

Give Yourself A Grounding Calm Every Day

Is there anything in life you can predict with 100% accuracy? “Death and taxes” is the short answer, and a fine answer it is, too, but not really useful in planning your afternoon.

We don’t know what’s coming next, but we have to be sure the present moment is worth surviving in order to go on living with purpose and responsibility. To do that, we need to appreciate the present moment. And to do that, it helps to mindfully meditate for grounding calm.

Art (And Science) Imitates Life

As the internet has become more integral to more parts of all our lives, it has become more like life itself; an array of distracting shiny objects, cast before us to engage our scattered attention just enough to make a purchase or arrive at a website. Think of how a driver with no real schedule can be coerced into a series of detours that lead to a shady carnival or bargain warehouse.

We can mindlessly fall into a clickbait diversion online that puts us in a place we would never consider going by informed choice. Avoiding distractions requires a plan and firm goals. Meditating regularly establishes a stronger mindset and vision that protects those goals in life’s everyday chaos.

Honestly Review Your Life Plans

Writing down your life’s goals and the why of your daily routine makes each day easier to navigate. When you know why you’re doing the things you do, distractions can’t lead you away from your schedule or wreck your immediate goals.

So, every day, review what you have planned for your life. You don’t have to spend much time, but evaluate it in terms of your present reality and make sure you’re still on target. You can do this anytime, but try to be consistent with it in your day’s schedule.

You’re the only one who decides how to spend your day and even with the occasional fire that pops up, you’re the one who maintains your life’s vision. Make sure it is clear in your mind. Make sure you have faith in it becoming reality. If you have the slightest fear or doubt, write it down again.

You must go all in on what you pursue and focus clearly.

Meditate With Joy And Gratitude

Establishing a focused mindset impervious to never-ending distractions is not easy, but not as difficult as it sounds. You don’t need expensive sound machines or exotic accoutrement to get your brain on your side of life’s many disputes.

Practicing consistently will do the job and, in less time than you may imagine. Best of all, meditating with joy and gratitude will make it a positive, desirable part of your day.

Here’s an incomplete checklist of concepts for a healthy, grounding and calming meditation. Your list may have more or less items because it’s your life. The specifics are not important, but spend time on each of them.

1. Breathing. For at least five full breaths, concentrate on the air flowing in and out of your lungs. Begin each exhale focusing on your belly contracting and expel as much air as you comfortably can. You’ll lose focus of course, but just come back to the breath each time.

2. Physicality. Continue breathing, shifting your focus to the head, neck and shoulders. Tighten your scalp muscles, face and jaw for a few seconds on the inhale, then relax on the exhale. Do the same for the rest of your body, with a few breaths dedicated to each area. Appreciate your body and be grateful for the time you have in each moment.

3. Concentration. Now that your body’s relaxed, it’s time to think big and concentrate on your life’s plan. Don’t try to assemble your ideal lifestyle here! Just focus on one aspect of where you want to be, based on what you’ve written.

4. Tolerance. Accept your mind’s distractions, then return to your vision. Repeat this process and do not get angry, frustrated or defeated. Scattered thoughts and broken concentration are perfectly natural. Use a short phrase like, “I’m following my path” to refocus on your life vision. Do this until details are clearer in your mind than your last meditation.

5. Visualization. After you’ve gotten your vision more firmly established, focus on where you are now. Feel your body and how it’s reacted to the process up to now, then get back to breathing forcefully and mindfully.

6. Appreciation. Think of what you’ve done for the day, focusing on accomplishments and how you’re now closer to your overall goal. Even if there were major setbacks, consider how you’re still here, still in control, and still moving where you want to go.

7. Gratitude. Clearly think of three things you’re grateful for. Focus on each for several breaths, embracing them wholly and the joy they bring you. Use a phrase like, “I’m fortunate to have this and I deserve to be happy!”

8. Optimism. End with breathing and repeating a positive phrase like, “My life is my own and I can make it wonderful.” “I am a valuable part of the universe and a good person.”

End Today Planning Tomorrow

Now that you’re clear again on your life’s purpose and goals, spend a couple of minutes writing down what you will get done tomorrow. Be specific and honest, but don’t be afraid to make mistakes with this. After you’ve done it a few times, planning the next day becomes natural and even exciting and fun!

This process, when followed consistently, makes your mind stronger. Your discipline improves drastically, because you always know why you’re doing what you do. Most important, you are working towards the thing that you’ve devoted your entire life to! Think of that!

Take A Moment To Be Happy With Your Work

You’ve actually taken the time and spent the mental, emotional energy to dedicate your life to a beautiful, noble purpose. (We’re assuming the best, here.)

How many people have been strong enough, HONEST enough to go through all that? There is no better way to be calm and grounded than to be sure you are the best person you can be; that your path is clear and that you are all the way on it.

Going through this process gives the strength, focus and confidence to handle nearly anything life can hand you. Right now, leave a statement here committing to your best life and taking care of yourself to achieve it.
